Sanyo Xacti E6
Sanyo's flagship Xacti E6 boasts good image quality, easy operation, and extreme portability. The generous 3" LCD monitor works well with the Touch sensor functions, making it a very viable option as workhorse photo viewer. Its Touch sensor managed to reduce time lag to a minimum in the process. Its 6 megapixel resolution and 3x optical zoom captures beautiful pictures, showing very little color shifting. The minimal amount of buttons does not hamper it, instead it shows how great the UI is. The Xacti E6 is a great starting point for any point & shoot photograper. Via Let's Go Digital

Solar Projector to help teach reading

Solar Projector to help teach reading
Poor communities without electricity can harness the power of the sun to power an overhead projector invented by a non-profit group. This "kinkajou" projects text and images against a wall and have undergone successful tests across 45 villages in Mali. This rugged machine can withstand heat and rough handling, and uses a microfilm, a solar panel, a battery, LED technology, and a measure recharging instrument. It costs just $50 and a $10 roll of microfilm can hold up to 10,000 images. Here's hoping that this breakthrough will increase the literacy rate amongst the affected groups for a better life. Fujifilm Finepix E900

Fujifilm Finepix E900
The Fuji Finepix E900 is a compact digital camera that is capable of snapping 9 Megapixel pictures. While the number of pixel in an image is not the only criteria that define image quality, it might be an indication of how advanced the technology is. I think that for cameras with such small lenses, the average user would be satisfied with 6 Megapixel and above. The Fuji E900 has a 4x optical zoom, stores the photos on an XD card, which is a curious choice. SD or Compact Flash would have been more convenient in my opinion. It runs on two AA batteries, which is very practical when traveling. Full review at  letsgodigital
